Articles from Peptilogics
Tim Czartoski, orthopedic executive and former president of DePuy Synthes U.S. and most recently president of U.S. Surgical and Global R&D at Enovis, has joined the Peptilogics board of directors. His background in leading large orthopedic device businesses, including successful launches of robotic technology platforms and one of the industry’s most advanced knee systems, lends significant value to Peptilogics as it moves towards bringing meaningful innovation to market. Czartoski sees tremendous opportunity in therapeutic solutions that advance or complement current approaches to prosthetic joint infections (PJI) and medical device-related infections (MDRI), complications that have been addressed almost exclusively through device and surgical innovation for more than fifty years.

Peptilogics, a surgical therapeutics company dedicated to curing and preventing devastating medical device-related infections (MDRI), has announced the enrollment of the first patient in the RETAIN Phase 2/3 registration trial by Dr. Toan Le at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The trial is evaluating PLG0206, a first-in-class anti-biofilm drug candidate, in patients with prosthetic joint infection (PJI), the first of multiple potential MDRI indications. PJI represents the largest unmet need in orthopedics and a significant entry point into a broader MDRI market that affects millions of patients annually.

Peptilogics, a clinical-stage biotechnology company, today announced new top-line interim data for PLG0206 in periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) patients from their ongoing Phase 1b trial. At 180-days following treatment with PLG0206 administered during a DAIR (Debridement, Antibiotics, and Implant Retention) surgery, no treatment-related serious adverse events were reported in either cohort. One recurrence was observed in the trial (one of 14 patients, 7%), which was in the Low Dose cohort at Day-180; no recurrences were observed in the High-Dose cohort. This is significantly lower (p=0.029) than the 55% 180-day recurrence rate observed in a similar patient population reported by Zhu, et.al in the Journal of Arthroplasty in 2021. Detailed analyses will be presented at various conferences in the coming months.

Peptilogics, a clinical-stage biotechnology company, today announced top-line interim data of PLG0206 in PJI patients from their ongoing Phase 1b trial. At 90 days post-Debridement, Antibiotics, and Implant Retention (DAIR) surgery, there were no treatment-related adverse events reported in the low-dose cohort. Additionally, zero infection recurrences were observed in this subset of patients compared to 44% recurrence rate in historical controls as shown by Zhu, et.al in the Journal of Arthroplasty in 2021 at 90 days. Detailed analyses along with data from the high-dose cohort will be presented at conferences in the coming months.

Peptilogics, a clinical stage biotech company engineering peptide therapeutic solutions for patients with life-threatening diseases, is presenting two posters featuring preclinical data from its antimicrobial peptide, PLG0206, at IDWeek 2022. The studies demonstrate the potent activity of PLG0206 against bacteria that cause periprosthetic joint infections (PJI), including multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria. PJI is the most common complication of joint replacement surgery and is a life-changing event for patients. PJI treatment currently requires an average of three major surgeries per patient, which adds a significant burden on patients, surgeons and the healthcare system. With up to a 60% failure rate and a five-year mortality of 25%, this debilitating condition surpasses the death rates of many cancers. In addition, the increased post-surgical use of standard antibiotics can lead to MDR, a major growing public health concern with few or no therapeutic solutions. MDR related infections pose a significant concern to patients as well as society in both the short- and long-term. These challenges necessitate finding new solutions for treating PJI, including those caused by MDR bacteria.
